Why then would you put a cast forged torsion key made overseas on your 50k+ truck???
When you put larger wheels and tires on your truck, torsion keys take extreme
pressure far exceeding manufactures OEM specifications. While some “Forged”
torsion keys meet these OEM levels, they were never designed to exceed these
factory OEM design standards. Larger heavier tires exceed these OEM tolerances!
Velocity Off-Road Torsion Keys are different from any other torsion key on the market!
Precision CNC manufactured from a single billet block of 4130 Chromoly steel. This SAE J404 alloy steel is the same steel used in NASCAR, NHRA and Off-Road fabrication parts. While billet Chromoly 4130 steel is not cheap, it is simply the best material to manufacturing high strength Chevy/GMC Torsion keys from. After our in-house manufacturing process and heat treating, we then coat all our 4130 Torsion keys with a special Velocity Stealth Black Nitrate Oxide coating. This coating insures 100% positive engagement of the torsion bar and keys and keeps corrosion at bay. Powder coat and cheap paint finishes can cause you to loose up to 10 thousands of engagement and accelerate torsion bar end wear and easily chip and peel.

“Billet 4130 Chromoly Steel” Vs. “Forged Steel”
The term “forged” has been used for years and is often utilized as automotive marketing hype to convince customers they are getting the highest quality product. Unfortunately the reality is as market demand has increased, most companies overseas Torsion Key suppliers have lost control of there material specification and quality control. In fact we have even seen some manufactures who claim there products are forged, only to see they were actually high pressure cast parts, not something you want install on your prized truck.
The Velocity Team have seen other companies “forged torsion” keys shear in half in mild off-road conditions. While a break locally means a tow truck to the shop, a break for us chasing the Baja 1000 race in Mexico hundreds of miles from civilization would be catastrophic and damn expensive for sure!
Ask our competitors “What their full torsion key is made of” and “where is it manufactured exactly?"
If that manufacturer hesitates and does not clearly define a material specification?
We think you already know the answer…….
4130 chromoly steel is used in everything from AK-47 rifles to military aircraft engine mounts. 4130 steel is an excellent material for uses such as gears, piston pins, crankshafts, roller bearings and of course Torsion Keys. One of the important characteristics of the 4130 steel is the ability to be case hardened by carburization (heat treated) of the surface. The core of the material retains its bulk properties, while the outside is significantly hardened to reduce wear and tear on the part, in this case the torsion bar and adjustment bolt. While using other material might allow us to “get by” we feel 4130 sets the bar for Torsion Keys at a price similar to so call “forged” kits.
After all you won’t find a F-117 Stealth fighter planes landing gear being held up with “overseas forged” parts... Why should your Chevy/GMC truck be any different?
